Upcoming Overnight Closures for Western Boulevard

The North Carolina Department of Transportation will close a section of Western Boulevard on multiple nights to facilitate the installation of girders for the new I-440 East bridge over Western Boulevard, contingent on weather conditions. The closure spans from just west of Chaney Road to east of Blue Ridge Road. Both directions of Western Boulevard will be closed tonight and Wednesday nights, with only eastbound lanes closed on Tuesday and Thursday nights. Work will commence at 9 p.m. each night and conclude at 5 a.m. the following morning.

During the closures, eastbound traffic on Western Boulevard will be diverted to Interstate 440 West. Drivers should exit at Melbourne Road, proceed on I-440 East to Hillsborough Street, and then use Gorman Street to return to Western Boulevard. Drivers should exercise caution in the work zone and plan for delays.
