The Wolfline Improvement Project Wins First Place at NC State’s Engineering Design Day

We are very happy to announce that the Industrial and Systems Engineering seniors that have been working with Connor Jones, Transit Manager for the Wolfline, this semester won first place at NC State’s Engineering Design Day, on December 7. The project, focused on the Wolfline, was selected to represent NC State at the national level for the 2023 IISE Innovation Design Competition in New Orleans, May 20-23. There were a number of fantastic projects that focused on recycling furniture to optimizing production floors and training programs.

Seniors Mallory Padgett, Nick Berinson, and Colin Lawler explored various optimization solutions for Wolfline operations including more efficient routing, maintenance schedules, and alternative fuel. NC State Transportation and the NC State Sustainability Office were co-sponsors of the project. “The Wolfline Improvement Project,” as it was called, outlined potential solutions that could save NC State Transportation up to 5.3% in fuel costs, save students 139 hours of waiting per day and decrease emissions by up to 73%.

They will graduate this fall on December 15.
