2023-2024 Parking and Transportation Policy Updates
Every year the Transportation Department reviews the ordinances and recommends changes for clarification and to improve our efficiency and effectiveness.
While most of the changes are minor, the following are a few substantive updates that we want to make sure the campus community is aware of.
These changes go into effect on July 1, 2023. You can find more information about these changes and the complete list of policies in the Parking and Transportation Ordinances.
Non-expiring employee permits (Section 2.2.5)
- Employee permits will now automatically renew unless the employee cancels the permit.
- This only applies to employees who pay for the permit by payroll deduction.
- Employees will be notified by email if the permit rates increase.
Updated EV charging policies (Section 2.4.2)
- Vehicles must be actively charging while parked in spaces designated for EV charging.
- While disconnected, parking in EV charging spaces will be subject to citation.
- Use of each EV charging space over four (4) consecutive hours will be subject to an hourly surcharge.
Carpools and Vanpools (Section 2.4.5)
- This section was revised to provide a better understanding of the policies and procedures.
- Interested students must purchase the carpool permit before regular permit sales begin.
- The carpool permit only allows one vehicle to park on campus each day.
- When multiple vehicles from the same carpool are on campus on the same day, without using a daily parking permit or hourly pay lot, a misuse of carpool permit citation will be issued to each vehicle in violation.
Increase in parking enforcement fines (Section 5.1.1)
- To encourage compliance with the parking policies, enforcement fines have increased in several categories.
- This is the first time fines have increased in 20 years.
Violations enforced 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year (Section 5.1.2)
